How do I start a Plan?
Just wondering, how do I start a Plan? – guidelines for doing it yourself
As Kiwis, we’re inclined to love all things D.I.Y – including Financial Planning. Therefore, this video is all about getting your Financial Plan started if you’re going to do it yourself.
When starting, there are three key areas to look at – your goals, your current financial situation, and your strategy. By nailing these three areas, you’ll be well on your way to put yourself in a stronger, more secure position, able to achieve your financial dreams.
As you move further with your planning, we think that it’s essential to meet with a professional – especially when looking at more detailed Investment or Risk Mitigation strategies.
In the video Dean mentions some freebies for you to download, to help you with your planning, you’ll find these below. Let’s get started.
1. Goals
Knowing where you want to go is by far the most important part of any Financial Plan. Knowing our destination and timeframe sets the pace for our Plan. Just like a road trip, if we know the vehicle we are driving, how much time we have and sketch out the places we’d like to stop along the way, we’ll be in a good position to know when we can enjoy the sights and when we’ll need to hit the road.
2. Complete an Audit
Now is the perfect time to look through your expenses.
Enter your actual spending on the Spending Plan. Go back over the last 3-6 months' worth of transactions and list them down. Once completed, you will have the ability to adjust the figures to match your spending goals.
